Project abstract

Sensor-Works’ latest product is the BluVib wireless machine condition sensor.

Measuring both vibration and temperature data, it combines a sensor, data collector, data analysis and low power wireless communication into a compact, self-powered housing.

The sensor is used primarily in process industries where common applications involve monitoring of motors, fans, pumps, gearboxes etc.

The devices provide overall values of vibration, bearing condition and temperature (often referred to as process variables in the industry) as well as high resolution spectra of vibration and bearing envelope. BluVib also has an on-board demodulator function for bearing envelope detection.

Sensor-Works is working with the IoT Centre in CENSIS to enhance functionality within the BluVib device but also develop the necessary software modules for an industrial grade IoT gateway that will be used to provide connectivity for the devices. This gateway will be used to control and manage a number of BluVib devices simultaneously by creating a wireless sensor network using Bluetooth Low Energy. Ideally suited to larger deployments, the gateway will act as a central data collection and processing point for the sensor network, ensuring all devices remain in one of the predefined modes of operation configured by the user. As the name suggests, it will also act as a gateway to a wider network for the purposes of remote control, configuration and monitoring of the sensor network as well as the infrastructure in which the BluVib’s are deployed on.
