Sensors are all around us. They are in automatic doors and supermarket tills, mobile phones and vehicles, gyms, hospitals and airports. Sensors detect aspects of the physical world and are used widely in lifestyle, fitness, healthcare, manufacturing and daily life.

In this online event Helen Sandison, an engineer at CENSIS, will introduce the basics of sensor devices, how they work and what they are used for. Computing science skills alongside creativity and design, teamwork and collaboration are all needed in a typical day for a sensor engineer. Helen will also share her advice and experience on being a woman in the technology industry. With some case studies and interactive demos during the talk, get an insight into how engineers make sense of the world.

This session is suitable for secondary school students and upwards, plus anyone with an interest in learning more about new technologies.

This session will comprise a short online talk, including live interactive demos, and will explore the important role of sensor devices in our everyday lives.
