As part of the IoT cyber challenge programme, CENSIS in partnership with the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise offered a series of workshops in 2020 designed to:
The five themed workshops were designed as half-day, online events, and each workshop included examples of IoT in the subject area, plus breakout sessions for participants to discuss challenges, solutions and opportunities. Guest speakers were also invited to talk about their views and experiences in developing and adopting secure IoT.
The series of workshops was part of the Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Government supported IoT cyber challenge programme. The programme was announced by Kate Forbes MSP at the 6th CENSIS Technology Summit in 2019 to accelerate Scotland’s IoT capabilities.

James Pavur, University of Oxford
Talk: “Trends in IoT-style development practices that are starting to impact the way that we build and use satellites and what that means for their security”.
James is a Rhodes Scholar and PhD student at Oxford University in the Centre for Doctoral Training on Cyber-Security. Prior to attending Oxford he graduated with valedictory honors from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service where he majored in Science, Technology, and International Affairs. His PhD research revolves around the intersection between cyber-security and space technology with a particular focus on satellite communications. However, he has a broader general interest in cyber-security and cyber-policy.

Talk: “Considerations for using IoT in Offshore Oil & Gas”
With over 15 years of experience in oil & gas, public sector, and space & defence, Rob has broad range of experience in the application of technology to solve important problems for organisations large and small. He currently secures industrial controls systems and OT in oil & gas, maritime and manufacturing, both as an operator, asset owner and a creator of mission- and safety-critical systems.
